“These programs provide an instant community and push children towards achievement. … [they] are encouraged to help each other learn and embrace collaboration. The program also exposes children to additional resources, such as academic coaching, college applications, and definitive examples of student alumni.”

Capital Harmony Works’ 2nd Annual Impact Report Is Here.

Read all about this significant year in the lives of Trenton Music Makers, Trenton Children’s Chorus, and Music for the Very Young, as they joined forces to form a new, stronger organization.

Capital Harmony Works: Three Programs, One Home

Capital Harmony Works is the home of three creative youth development programs, gathering together young folks in New Jersey’s Capital City who shine a powerful light on what makes our city great:

  • Trenton Music Makers, our El Sistema-inspired string and percussion orchestra

  • Trenton Children’s Chorus, our renowned K-12 choirs, and

  • Music for the Very Young, our award-winning pre-K program that runs in partnership with public preschools in Trenton and Ewing.

Trenton Music Makers

Founded in 2015, Trenton Music Makers is a youth orchestra based on El Sistema, a global movement with its roots in Venezuela, which seeks to spark social change through the ambitious pursuit of musical excellence. Students play together five days a week after school.

Trenton Children’s Chorus

In Trenton Children's Chorus, children and youth in the greater Trenton area can experience exceptional music education, collaborative events, and premiere performance opportunities.

Music for the Very Young

Music for the Very Young, thriving in partnership with Trenton’s public preschools, reinforces children’s innate musicianship with solid age-appropriate skill, while giving them a vivid experience of what fun it is to make music with friends. Upon entry to kindergarten, they have access to our combined pre-orchestra and choral programs, and from there can choose their own adventures as choristers and orchestral musicians.

Learning Academy

Orchestra member and choristers have access to the Learning Academy program, which pairs them with college and independent-school students as coaches, who not only support their grade-level achievement in math and language arts, but also help them to understand their own primary learning styles and adapt their strategies to ensure their success, now and throughout their lives.
